Identify the Pairs

Introduction

The level one of this activity is meant for children who have difficulty in identifying alphabets. Some children find it difficult to read similar looking alphabets such as b and d, n and m or w, y and g, h and b etc. They get confused when they see similar looking shapes and because of this they have difficulty in remembering the shapes of letters. This activity may help the child to overcome this problem. Regular practice is recommended.

This activity also helps children to concentrate. This can be used as an activity to improve concentration. Children with attention deficit- ADHD- may find this activity useful as it keeps them engaged for some time.

There are six levels. The arrangement of levels is shown below.

Some children are a bit slow in doing work. This activity can speed up their brain if they are made to do the activity in a specified time. Depending upon the ability of the child, the parents can decide the time within which their child can do this activity. Even if the child has not completed the activity, the child should stop working when the time limit is reached. Over a period of time the child would be able to improve the speed of doing things. This may even help her/him in the class to copy faster from the board, finish homework early etc.

How to use

Tips for parents

Does your child have difficulty in identifying some alphabets? Then this activity would be useful.

  1. How to help your child? We have done this activity in small (lower case) letters. You can do this activity in capital letters. You can also do this activity using both capital and small letters. See the example below.

  4. This is a good activity for children who have problems in copying from the board or who miss lines while copying. Buy a board and set up the activity. Ask the child to copy the grid and then do the activity.
  5. You can even ask your child to make exercises for you! Setting questions is an important activity in mastering what is learnt. It is a great thinking activity.
