Spell Game

Tips for parents:

You can play memory games with children. Read a list of four words/things.Ask your child to write the words from memory. This is a fun way of giving dictation.

You can make a longer list of 5, 6, 7,8 words. The child need not follow the order of the words.

Another variation is to use a board and write the words in different colours and erasing them. Ask the child to write the words from memory.

We strongly recommend buying a white board and using marker pens with different colours.

These types of activities are good not only for improving memory but also to improve imagination.Story making would help the child to memorize the sequence of the words in the list. This is also a good activity to develop association of ideas to link the words. This activity strengthens the language skills.

The recall ability of the children would improve if you can teach them how to make stories connecting the words in a list.

I am using a dictionary and I note down seven words at random.

                                        Clean

                                        Cold

                                        Better

                                        Chose

                                        Feed

                                        Develop

The challenge is : How to make a story connecting these words? My story runs like this.

I clean my cycle and I am about to go out. It is cold outside. My mother tells me, "it is better you wear a sweater.” I choose a red sweater and go out. I find a man feeding birds. I think, “I should also develop love for animals”.
